Melaka trip rant

This past Monday, I drove down to Melaka for a much needed break, thinking I could drown myself in food at all the famous cafes and stalls in town. I haven't been there since I was about 10 during a family trip and it turned out pretty okay. So instead of vacationing in Port Dickson again, it was decided Melaka was a decent option.

I stayed in Hotel Mimosa, the same one I stayed when I was a kid. I still recognize it - it was nestled between shophouses and nearby Jonker Street and the Capitol Satay Celup store. Room was okay, small but tidy enough for my liking.

I reached on a Monday afternoon, and for dinner, I'd walk to Jonker Street and find whatever food I can find there. Except it was closed. Go figure. So I walked around aimlessly with Waze as my guide - and somehow, I arrived at the Satay Celup store at Lorong Bukit Cina. The long queue didn't bother me, I was just contented I stumbled upon a famous place to eat. Even had time to drop by Big Bowl Ice store for dessert - just a few shops down the road.

Breakfast at the hotel on Tuesday morning, well, put it this way, it is a small hotel after all so I didn't expect breakfast like the one at Cyberview Lodge. Anyways, I was stoked to head out to Jonker Street for some goodies. I had the cendol at Jonker 88. I liked it and for the price, I liked it even more =)

Not knowing where else to go, I wandered around the street, then I started to get antsy, so I drove to Mahkota Parade. The highlight of my day was getting my Vincci heels size 4 (Mid Valley only had size 5 and above) and a pretty bracelet. 

Ohh, and I had Nando's for dinner.

Yes, the Nando's chicken chain store. There is one 15 minutes away from my apartment.

I couldn't wait to leave. I could only heave a sigh of relief after I checked out on Wednesday morning. But before I left the town, I thought I'd try the Nedeje mille crepes nearby Mahkota Parade. I like cakes, so why not.

Except it was closed. The company had a teambuilding on the same day.

A look back

Bloggers are doing it, radio stations and MTV are counting down top hits of 2012, CNN is looking back at defining moments of 2012, so it only seem practical to be reviewing the year that was 2012. I did it for 2011, and .. oh wow, did I just did something similar for 2 consecutive years? 

Bring on the confetti.

1. In 2011 I was constantly being bugged about not utilizing the benefit points the company offers. So I went on 4 vacations, twice to PD (here and here) and twice to Cyberjaya, which is also 5 mins away from my office.

2. I ordered a Victoria's Secret outfit online and it arrived a week later, despite what the email said about reaching my home in 20 days. And that, my friends, launched me into total VS obsession.

3. I made an error at work somewhere in March. And somehow I made it through the year with people I thought were good peeps but turned out to be the greatest phonies and backstabbers mankind has ever came across.

4. This one time at Manhattan Fish Market, I mistook a customer for a waiter.

5. We Are Young was my ringtone for half a year.

6. I met this jackass who ran the red light and I had no choice but to ram into his car. I forked out 1800 for repairs and he must have used more to repair his damaged suspension. Now I have a phobia when I'm the first car at traffic light.

7. I discovered Pinterest.

8. I moved.

9. I found out my feet are shrinking, now that I can't fit into a size 4 shoe.

10. I was among the 10 selected from my department to be in charge of the 2012 London Olympics. Before that I went through a gruelling process of calling and texting over 20 people in one day trying to pass my OTs to them and none helped. That also taught me a lesson about being nice to people.

11. I volunteered at a children's ward.

12. One time, I went to work on my off day. Genius.

13. Slept through and survived the 21 December 2012 apocalypse. 

14. Did a good deed.

15. Went to Singapore for the 2nd time in 2 years. I shall blog about it when I'm in the mood.

March 10 is Good Deeds Day

March 10, 2013 is Good Deeds Day, and this super nice deed came 3 months early! I pledge to be nice to everyone I meet on March 13, but hey, I'm doing lotsa good deeds already, like on December 20, 2012.

I attended a company training at the Bukit Jalil Golf Club and not knowing where it was specifically, a bunch of us rode the company shuttle bus to the course. The training ended earlier than it was scheduled to, so all of us from the department I work at hitched a ride with those who drove to the club. And that left 2 other people who were gonna wait at least 45 mins for the shuttle to arrive and pick them up.

Mind you, I hardly knew who they were. Yeah, same company but it's one big ass company. And I sorta felt bad for them because that very same thing happened to me 10 minutes earlier (before I knew I could hitch with a colleague). I couldn't make up my mind if I would drive to the golf club to give the 2 people a lift, but naturally my car was headed towards the place anyways - and long story short, I gave 2 strangers a ride back to the workplace. Short distance, but it was all worth while.

Then I went to Mid Valley.

Go watch Ted

And don't bring your kids along, unless you want them to drop f bombs at you when you least expect it. Sure, he looks cuddly to you at first, but once you realize Seth McFarlane (from Family Guy fame) is directing it, he's not so cute after all.

Picture the most immature womanizer foul mouthed pot smoking douchebag you have come across. And you get Ted. The one sweet thing about Ted is his treasured friendship with Mark Wahlberg's character, John, and his constant look-out for John to chill and live like there's no tomorrow rubs John's girlfriend, Lori, the wrong way.

The plot is a familiar one - guy has to choose between his girl and his best bud, and when the best bud gets into trouble, the girl wishes everything will be back to normal and the bud grows up (albeit just a little) and it's a happy ending. But you can't help getting drawn to Ted and laugh along with his crude humour and hilarious one liners. After all, his exterior is a lovable teddy bear and you can't help feeling for the furry creature who was once a national celebrity and has now descended into a life of prostitution and slacking. Just like stories you've heard about real life Hollywood celebrities.

He also drives a car, he eventually gets a job at a grocery store and gets promoted a number of times due to his sexual escapades with a co-worker he eventually dates, and he genuinely loves John and Lori.

This movie is Rated-R, so unless you'd want your kids to listen to profanities for a good an hour and 40 minutes, this is a no-no for them. But if you're looking for a good ol' comedy and a fan of Seth McFarlane's Family Guy and American Dad, this is good one.
