Dear Economics

You can go straight to hell when the semester ends.

Just because

Travelled by train to West Kirby, a lil idyllic town at the edge of the Wirral Peninsula with Fei Lin and Farah. Couldn't resist to take this pic of a lil guy and his dog by the Marine Lake.

Went to a nearby hill to watch a meteor shower. My cam couldn't capture the meteors so here is downtown Liverpool at night.

One of the final days in Liverpool. Mess. Late night. Paperwork.

Something nice

Dinner with tablemates (I share the same table with them in classes) =) Nicest people you could ever know.

Houses on the way to church, and a guy driving by.

Taken at Albert Dock late in the evening.

The type of houses and residences you picture when reading Enid Blyton's books. Taken at Grasmere Village on the way up to Easedale Tarn.

Dog at Easedale Tarn. It's a lake situated at the top of the hills.

A Herdwick sheep during our trek up the hill.

Downtown Liverpool from Albert Dock.

Yard at John Foster building. Gives me a university feel. It's been more than a year since this pic was taken, and it's nice to look back at it once in a while =)

Past and present

Haiz ... graduated already but still need to read those darn scholarly articles on Swetswise and NetLibrary.

What? No lah I'm not going to grad school. But even if I did I wouldn't tell =P

K - who is also my driver, my hotel and occasionally my ATM is in the midst of a college dissertation so I figured I'd lend a helping hand since I'm sitting at home doing nothing but using electricity and raising the Internet bill to a new level.

So I'm back to the terrifying 3 months in Liverpool - doing the infamous literature review. The worst part like, ever.

To the good news - I was in the Mid Valley Boulevard area yesterday for an interview. Not inside the shopping complex. The interviewer said she'd get back to by this week or next. Mana tahu this evening she called me up saying I got the job.

Wuah! Sooooo happy! First time interview lagi wei. And yesterday also marked exactly 1 month after I touched down at KLIA. But anyway the job needs me to have a car and drive around town doing research and attending functions and my dad didn't think the salary is gonna be enough to live on.

Whoopee

No more watching Big Brother! Wheeeeeee!!

To future Summer Semester Programme juniors, I'm not trying to scare anyone off but start watching Big Brother UK now on the Internet to familiarise yourself with the various English accent =) If Ethics is still in the curriculum (how do you spell this lah?!) lah, which I think it will be.

If you're a reality TV addict then you shouldn't have any problems with the show format. Personally it's fun but Charlie's (one of the contestant) accent just kills my mood.

If you don't know what it's all about, well, it's a group of selected people from all over UK living together in a house and each week, they will nominate some people for eviction, and the public will decide who gets the boot outta the house.

Sounds boring?

Well not really. The housemates fight a lot. Foul languages are not censored. There's love triangles. Couple years ago some housemates had sex under the duvets. And there's the racism bullying.

Still not convinced?

Either way when you're here you'd be watching it =)

The brightest side of life

Final week of college! Can't believe it's all over soon. :(

Curtain call

The Liverpool Odyssey is coming to an end. I don't want to go home. I'm not ready. How bittersweet it is to spend the next 12 days oggling at horrible journals and senseless critical analysis. But put those aside and you'll see why life in Liverpool has been splendid!.

Fabulous tablemates. Eling, Sharon & Xiao Ren, thanks for everything!

My street!

Infamous Lobster Pot fish and chips! Enough for dinner and next day's lunch.

Alan Molyneux the Great. The verb says it all.

Andrew Upton. He didn't handle my seminars but I'm joining his fan club anyways.

Sex?!

In Zoe's seminar today we were discussing about the effects of reality TV shows on the contestants, and I figured, well, if I did get voted out I'll be sad. So I said one word "sad" which we Malaysians pronounce it "sed"

But Zoe somehow heard "sex". Apparently the British emphasizes the "A", so "sad" becomes "saad". Okay at least I won't be embarrass myself in public.

Boost

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. August will be hell, but I'll make it back. It's not my first time. Cliche quote I know, but sometimes it's the simplest of quotes which describes you best. The last 2 semesters in Advanced Diploma opened the eyes of those who go by the "No pain, No gain" quote. The 3 month internship shows how little you know about the real world. It's a dog eat dog world out there.

The strong hearted survives. The weak ones barely scrapes through but they'll get there. The average ones either hope they'll stay put, go up and pray not to slip down the ladder. Sometimes all you need is luck, sometimes it's brains, usually it's because of your own determination and other times you're just plain unlucky. As for me, I'm trying to live the western university life you see so much in movies.

[no one angkats tangan]

Oh alright .. you're probably too busy yea

[whisperings] No lah where got money. Poor lah. 6 pounds wor, pk leh. Downloading in process.

One day later

Lots of things happened since the previous post.
#1. Carrie Prejean, Miss California USA 2009 who was subjected to much criticism lately has finally being fired by Donald Trump. For those folks out there who still think she was fired because if she was the President all homosexual beings in the USA are forbidden to walk down the aisle, wrong. If you think she was fired over her racy pics and lying about it, wrong. In fact, The Donald called those pics "lovely". Get the facts right people, all she did was basically violate her contract agreement by her unwillingness to make appearances on behalf of the Miss CA organization.

Your new Miss California USA, Tami Farrell (also Miss Teen USA 2003) who was first runner up to Carrie.

#2. A local black Airedale Terrier (I think) living on Fonteney Street pounced on me this morning and not wanting to let go. When I was passing by he was doing his business, and then I said hi to him. And he jumped and hugged my leg. And then Yuin Yue asks, hey you think the dog wanted to make love to you? Wa liao ... humans don't want me but dogs do.
Hmrphh okaylah at least there's one type of species who finds me nice. Hahahaha

#3. Thesis proposal has been rejected, cuz apparently some student last year researched on the same film and scope as me so my supervisor thought it might look as if I plagiarized from that senior. Shucks ... I doubt she'll let me research on Hairspray cuz one of the assignments deals with musical films so mahu tak mahu I'll falling back on Da Vinci Code.
>.<

#4. I stopped by Tesco Express nearby Adelphi Hotel, mainly to seek refuge from the wind and bought 3 packets of candy for 1 pound (totally unnecessary) and 2 boxes of Viennese whirls cookies (buy one free 1) (also totally unnecessary). =.="

Hey Lace, how come I never see your name wan? (checks his list)

Erm .. you never ask mah

Put you in ah ...

Ah erm .. okay, but I got blog wor, you can go check it wat

Aih, this is not electronic punya journal (scratches my name off)

Hrmphhh okaylah put me in put me in! (like so desperate liddat)

I wonder

4 more days! I can't believe it, can you?! I haven't even started packing yet but I have prepared a list of things to bring like "yellow highlighters" cuz I think I'm gonna need those for coloring another load of articles there.

We gotta watch Fast & Furious for assignment. OK so now the problem is where to search for that movie around lah? Plus I'm a noob at downloading things off the Internet.

I wonder if the immigration officers are gonna scan for pirated DVDs, got such machine one or not? Nanti they confiscate my entire stash die lah how to do thesis?

My folks have been announcing to the entire world about me flying to an orang putih country and obtaining an overseas degree cuz let's face it lah Msians aunties and uncles have this sudden admiration for you when they hear "study overseas boh". Anyway saying you got an Advanced Diploma sounds like you just did a 4 year diploma course. No joke some people pandang you semacam when you say that.

Flight leaves at 11pm on May 28 2009. *bites nails*

Checklist

Okay I know I've been badmouthing UK a lot so I've made a list on why I should enjoy my stay.

1. Free Internet access 24/7 (of course I've paid it together with the fees so it feels free)
2. Trips to Edinburgh, Alton Towers, York and Lake District (cost is another story)
3. Meeting some new people (perhaps?)
4. Leicester trip!
5. London trip!
6. Euro trip! (got some free Euro coins haha!)

I keep on visualizing a skinny bony me after THE three months. I know well there's gonna be stress. Iqbal and the other professors are gonna drive me up the wall, that's a done deal. I'll be developing a habit where I'll multiply all the figures on the price tags with 5. One time I was secretly hoping I'll stumble upon some rich guy's wallet and I'll return it to the cops and he'll give me a hefty reward. Haha. Sarah's boyfriend apparently works for EA. Wonder if he could give me Sims 3 for free. Dad's cousin told me a burger in UK could cost me around 4 pounds (plus it's huge!). That way I can have some for lunch and keep the rest for dinner.Yes, I'm that cheap. I've calculated it's gonna take me 15 months to pay back my folks the 30,000 bucks assuming I earn 2000 bucks per month.

In 2 weeks time, almost

By now you should be smart enough to know I'm not looking forward for UK. At all. And I'm anxiously waiting for those 3 months to pass by asap. Not cuz of Euro trip lah, mainly cuz I'm outta college (university whatever ..) and before you can say bye to me I'm off. Leaving all the memories behind, a handful of cool buds and some pretty mean people who somehow despised my guts. Doesn't take a genius to know.

You know who you are.

Euthanize me please?

Die I didn't log on e-learning Blackboard for 2 days lah. The strangest thing is I'm not bothered one bit. The saddest thing is that I'm not bothered by it one bit. How lah can score? And then people come up to me and say,

Take masters lah. A lot of (siao) humans also take, should be easy what.

Kill me now lah. Degree belum dapat lagi what you think I am? Robot ah? Visa also satu lagi hal, omigod like so fed up lah with the site I made my mom call up the visa application office to tell her what to do from A to Z lah.

Got visa and passport pics taken on Sunday. Not excited about it cuz you're destined to never look good in those. Going KL later to return my book and collect offer letter from office. Looking forward to not think about UK. Was never really a UK fan, it definitely didn't win me now.

Maybe I should've chosen UTAR instead.

There's nothing left to rack

Iqbal is making these 2 months gloomy. Stupid degree. You'd better gimme a better life starting this September after I grab a whole of you. Feels like I'm living on the LJMU blackboard. That's the first thing I see in the morning, and the thing which worries me throughout the evening, and the last thing in my head before I go to bed.

Next morning same whole schedule.

Ini degree punya pasal lah. That one paper that could grant me a penthouse apartment overlooking KLCC one day, or a worn out mattress on the banks of the Klang River.

Add 2 bucks you get large

Saturday night saw me at Starbucks for the 2nd time that week. Way to go, me. Spending money on coffee like it’s no one’s business. I really have to remind myself Nescafe Coffee 3 in 1 isn’t so bad, it’s still (cheaper) coffee after all.

Szetoo once said anyone who has a camera, regardless if it’s pro or not, can become a photographer wan. So equipped with my trusty Sony Ericsson W610i phone I thought of snapping some so called artistic professional arty farty photos. And this is what you get – raindrops on Starbucks’ glass window. Betcha can’t tell what the pic is before I told you the answer huh? >.<”

Hostel’s nasi goreng paprik. 3.80 for a huge load of rice. Not bad I tell you. Somehow I’m never tired of my college hostel’s food.

Damn syiok I tell you! So it wasn’t exactly a first class but Iqbal (he forbids us to call him Sir) giving me what I wished for was enough for a celebration. Yes, I think the nasi goreng paprik was for celebrating.

Thursday was Iqbal’s final class, and JC planned a tiny gathering for Class 5 at a nearby chicken rice shop.

New classmates for UK

College bytes

I see freshies and their families being toured around. I don't think I can get the job done cuz I can't find anything nice to say about this college. Ha! No lah, I came here in one piece and leaving still in one piece. Meaning the college masih boleh tahan. The lecturers also all nice nice wan, all pass me in exams. But Mandarin still fail.

I returned on Sunday to an empty hostel room. Kelly's away in Penang doing internship - testing blood in a lab. That sounds cooler than washing dishes and cups and cleaning after the crew. Haih
The day before I stupidly bought a notebook mouse, only to discover the wire was too short to be connected to my CPU underneath the table. Memang bodoh. So I have my CPU on my wooden hostel desk now which I'm kinda afraid will runtuh. But the new mouse kinda cool wei - can change colors wan y'know =)

Courtesy of wikipedia.org

K was 2 hrs late on Monday (another reason why I couldn't switch my tikus) so I say we go movie marathon only lah. I bising bising must watch Marley & Me.

Courtesy of wikipedia.org

Cuz I got an 11 year old Bruno at home, who one day would suffer the similar fate as Marley. And no, I did not read the book but I always picked up that book at Kinokuniya. Twas a nice show, but didn't get the journalism talk. Go watch if you got a dog =)

Found on Google

I survived this show by reading the subtitles. So what, cannot meh? Jack Neo's ideas are always darn appealing, if he made a Tamil movie I'll still die die must watch. Best of all, they shot a lot of it in KL. Tickets all together cost 22 bucks. Why must we come on public holidays everytime? I ask K. The ticket seller girl grins. Grin because this 2 orang No. 1 contributor for GSC.

And as if we weren't pokai enough, we ordered Starbucks. Chill lah, go UK no chance order mah, I say. I heard McD's burger 2 pounds oh? So, my meals are pretty done deal. Dinner after movies was Wendy's. Darn gembira lah cuz first time mah.

First time taking KTM to Tasik Selatan. Omg like so overjoyed lah, first time and didn't get lost. I shall be able to survive the trains in UK then. This guy in the black shirt also kinda cute. I forgot how he looks like though.

Saturday after class I was with the boys. One Arsenal die hard fanatic and the other I think sits on the fence. But he mentions he's supporting Liverpool now.
This dude supports MU. Y'know, the team that lost 1 - 4 to Liverpool that weekend?

Twas also the day I am officially booked for Liverpool.
