Judgment day 2009

WHO raises pandemic alert to second highest level

Couple of years ago there were several books at Kinokuniya which caught my eye. It talks about how the world is coming to an end in late 2009. But then again the book talks about a nuclear war and an asteroid collision with Earth. But it's worth a think.

Omg when I hear the word pandemic I imagine movies like 28 Weeks Later, I Am Legend, Resident Evil etc. Don't need me to tell you what those movies are all about.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Doomsday_prediction
But fear not, the Mesoamerican long count calendar, used by ancient Mayan astronomers have predicted that the world will be coming to an end in 2012. Couple of months ago I was again at Kinokuniya and they have new books this time around - how the world will end in late 2012.

Hey don't judge me I'm just saying what I encountered and I'm not making fun of these issues. After all, if I don't make it to UK next month (I paid my deposit and air ticket so I HAVE to go! $$$ not refundable I think) what am I gonna do?

Pageant Predictions: Miss USA 2009

I have been a huge fan of beauty pageants since 1998. I was 12 and was incredibly awestruck at their gowns and the way they carry themselves on stage. That was when I fell head over heels for strapless gowns (must get one of those someday!). Anyway, fast forward to 2002, I taped the Miss USA 2002 pageant and was instantly hooked on the Miss Universe Organization's 3 pageants. Miss USA is one of them.

I gotta say, despite the questionable ways the organization handle the pageants and what anti-pageant fans say about it - I look up to these beauty queens. (The good ones, duh). If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't know anything about volunteering and giving back to society. These women have played a part in influencing the way I live my life positively (still getting there though).

Miss USA 2009 is coming up, so these are the ones I've picked to make the Top 15 based solely on headshots.

Euthanize me please?

Die I didn't log on e-learning Blackboard for 2 days lah. The strangest thing is I'm not bothered one bit. The saddest thing is that I'm not bothered by it one bit. How lah can score? And then people come up to me and say,

Take masters lah. A lot of (siao) humans also take, should be easy what.

Kill me now lah. Degree belum dapat lagi what you think I am? Robot ah? Visa also satu lagi hal, omigod like so fed up lah with the site I made my mom call up the visa application office to tell her what to do from A to Z lah.

Got visa and passport pics taken on Sunday. Not excited about it cuz you're destined to never look good in those. Going KL later to return my book and collect offer letter from office. Looking forward to not think about UK. Was never really a UK fan, it definitely didn't win me now.

Maybe I should've chosen UTAR instead.

Wheee!!

Tuesday I balik KL – to return a library book. And to blow off some steam after a week of article reading and forum contributing. After returning the book I proceeded to borrow yet another one. Yes, I know, frickin smart.

Destination after library was Sunway, cuz I wanted to check out the new wing and Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant. Y’know, named after Bubba from the Forrest Gump film?

Another reason for me was to watch Talentime. T’was only cuz it was directed by Yasmin Ahmad. I frickin love her films, and because she frickin loves shooting in Ipoh, and best of all, she shot scenes in my church! Not lying leh. Go watch Gubra’s final scene. I can remember my church from anywhere =)

Omigod I screamed in ecstasy lah when they showed downtown Ipoh. Annoying I know, but I haven’t come across a lot of films that are being filmed in my hometown ok? That shows my pride in my very own Ipoh. =) And I think they shot the school scenes at SMK Anderson. Please pick my school for your next film, can?

I don’t usually do movie reviews cuz I very bias wan. If the movie stank but the cast very nice to look at I bagi 5 stars terus. But I didn’t think the movie was as geng as Ahmad’s previous films. Sure it had a nice hidden meaning but it wasn’t enough to make me go wow like I did with Sepet and Mukhsin. Some scenes just didn’t tally with the movie, like the one where an unknown Indian girl began dancing on stage, and I think it wasn’t even the talentime show yet. If there’s a hidden meaning please do tell me. Actors were fine, there’s cute guys (think Hafiz, Kahoe and Melkie) and cute girls (think Melur and Melati). Some were kinda bland though, prolly cuz they’re newbies to the acting industry. Am surprised they didn’t censor some words though ;) Besides the tears and frustrations there’s humor in Melkie who imitates his peers’ talents and an Indian teacher who thinks his two colleagues are gay. And duh, there’s singing, and I mean, the good kind of singing.

Totally forgot about Bubba Gump til I saw the sign while driving home.

Because K says Shopaholic is very appealing, next day I ikut him since my train wouldn’t leave in another 5 hours. If you saw me when the film was about to be released you would know I was dying to watch it cuz I have 4 outta the 5 books. Waiting for the last one to turun harga.

The film didn’t follow the books much, but it did portray Becky in a more positive, intelligent way than the childish self she was in the book. Even if she was to be immature, Isla still gives a little more adult-immature vibe on screen. Believe me, the trailer (also depends on which one you saw) does not do justice to what the show is about. It is cute and the characters are charming and if you’re a shopaholic you’ll get the point of the show. It’s not so much as a girl overspends, girl meets guy, happy ending story it’s more of a daily life story, your bad job, going to the end of the world for a better one, temptations (in this case, mannequins persuading you), overspending, trying to out run your bank manager and meeting (perhaps?) a guy along the way.

If you like watching adorable, lively, sporting girls, you’ll like Isla. She’s bubbly and preppy and chances are if you hate the storyline, Isla will make up for it.

There's nothing left to rack

Iqbal is making these 2 months gloomy. Stupid degree. You'd better gimme a better life starting this September after I grab a whole of you. Feels like I'm living on the LJMU blackboard. That's the first thing I see in the morning, and the thing which worries me throughout the evening, and the last thing in my head before I go to bed.

Next morning same whole schedule.

Ini degree punya pasal lah. That one paper that could grant me a penthouse apartment overlooking KLCC one day, or a worn out mattress on the banks of the Klang River.
